Laparoscopic gastric plication
Gastric plication surgery (gastric wrap) – this procedure involves formation of gastric folds by folding the stomach walls inward and suturing them in place. The stomach volume is reduced; as a consequence, the patient gets full after eating very little food. Patients can expect to lose from 40% to 100% of their excess body weight within the first two years after the surgery. Many medical conditions related to obesity (hypertension, diabetes, sleep apnea etc.) usually improve after this type of weight loss surgery.

Surgery

Recovery
- It is recommended to stay in the hospital for 2-3 days after the surgery. For patients having flights, it is recommended to fly not earlier than on the 4th day after the surgery to avoid any possible complications.
- Most patients return to work after 2 weeks after the surgery.
- Most patients return to their normal activities in 3 to 5 weeks after the surgery
- Pain medicine may need to be taken for 7-10 days after the surgery.
Possible complications
The procedure is performed under general anesthesia; therefore the anesthesia related complications may occur, e.g. nausea, vomiting, dental injuries, sore throat, headache, embolism etc. In addition, some postoperative complications are possible: suture leakage, separation of sutures etc. The risk of mentioned complications occurs in 1 percent of cases.
